Course Description

This course focuses on the neurological foundations of pain perception and modulation. Scholars will explore central and peripheral pain pathways, mechanisms of chronic and acute pain, and the brain structures involved in the pain experience. Clinical disorders, diagnostic techniques, and treatment strategies—including neuroplastic rehabilitation and non-pharmaceutical interventions—will be emphasized to enhance patient care for conditions such as neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and chronic headaches.

What you’ll learn:

  • Understand the central and peripheral pain pathways and modulation systems.
  • Identify clinical pain syndromes and their neurological mechanisms.
  • Perform neurological exams to assess pain-related brain and spinal structures.
  • Apply non-pharmaceutical rehab strategies to manage and reduce chronic pain.
