Course Description
Concussion assessment has long depended on subjective symptom checklists and clinical observation, leaving clinicians without the objective physiological data needed to confirm injury, track recovery, or justify extended care. As cases grow more complex and patient expectations rise, the gap between functional resolution and physiological resolution demands a more precise clinical lens.
This course introduces EEG and event-related potential technology as an objective window into post-concussive brain function. Clinicians will explore how P300 waveforms, brainwave frequency analysis, and FDA-approved EEG/ERP platforms translate neural electrical activity into actionable clinical data, enabling more confident diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and patient communication.
What you’ll learn:
- Distinguish EEG/ERP technology from standard QEEG and interpret clinical differences
- Identify the P300 waveform and explain its role in concussion assessment
- Interpret alpha, beta, theta, and delta wave patterns in post-concussive patients
- Evaluate four FDA-approved EEG/ERP platforms against real clinical workflow needs
- Apply serial EEG/ERP scanning to monitor treatment response and guide discharge
More About This Course
Concussion management sits at one of clinical neuroscience's most active frontiers, where the demand for objective, reproducible biomarkers is reshaping how practitioners assess, document, and treat post-concussive patients. EEG, electroencephalography, and ERP, event-related potentials, have emerged as two of the most well-researched and clinically accessible tools available for capturing the brain's electrical response to injury, making EEG/ERP concussion assessment a growing priority for functional neurologists, chiropractors, and allied clinicians working in neurorehabilitation.
This course equips clinicians with a working foundation in EEG and ERP technology applied directly to concussion care. Participants will examine the P300 waveform and its role as an objective marker of cognitive processing speed, explore how alpha, beta, theta, and delta frequency analysis reveals the physiological fingerprint of post-concussive dysfunction, and compare four FDA-approved platforms against real-world clinical workflow demands. Case-based examples drawn from pediatric, adult, and neurodivergent patient populations illustrate how EEG/ERP data integrates with existing clinical findings to produce richer, more defensible patient pictures. Clinicians will also explore how serial scanning enables meaningful treatment monitoring across a care episode.
This course is designed for licensed clinicians in functional neurology, chiropractic neurology, sports medicine, and neuropsychology who are already managing concussed patients and are ready to add objective neurophysiological data to their existing assessment frameworks. No prior EEG training is required. The content is accessible to clinicians who are encountering ERP technology for the first time while remaining substantive enough for those with broader neuroscience backgrounds.
Components
Educational Syllabus
- The Objective Case for EEG and ERP in Concussion Care
- Explore why subjective symptom tools leave a critical clinical gap in concussion care, and how EEG/ERP technology closes it by capturing real-time electrical evidence of post-concussive brain physiology.
- Reading the Brain's Response: P300 and Event-Related Potentials
- Master the P300 oddball paradigm, understand amplitude and latency as clinical markers, and learn how ERP data translates brain reaction time into objective, reportable evidence of cognitive function.
- Brainwave Frequencies and What They Reveal About Injury
- Decode alpha, beta, theta, and delta wave patterns in concussed and neurodivergent patients. Learn how excess or deficit in each frequency band maps to clinical presentations including ADHD, anxiety, and PTSD.
- FDA-Approved EEG/ERP Platforms and Clinical Implementation
- Compare four FDA-cleared EEG/ERP devices across cost, reporting complexity, clinical utility, and workflow fit. Leave with a framework for selecting and integrating the right platform into your practice.
