Course Description
Concussions can significantly influence neurological systems that support athletic performance. In this session, Matthew Antonucci examines how traumatic brain injury affects motor control, balance, reaction time, and cognitive processing in athletes. Participants will explore how clinicians assess neurological function following concussion and determine whether an athlete is ready to return to sport. The lecture reviews rehabilitation approaches designed to restore neurological efficiency and promote recovery through targeted stimulation and training. Emphasis is placed on understanding how neuroplasticity supports the restoration of performance capacity after injury. By integrating neurological assessment with performance evaluation, clinicians can help athletes recover safely while minimizing the risk of prolonged symptoms or repeat injury.
What you’ll learn:
- Understand how concussion affects neurological systems involved in athletic performance.
- Recognize clinical signs that may impact performance after concussion.
- Identify assessment methods used to evaluate athletes during recovery.
- Explore rehabilitation strategies aimed at restoring neurological function.
- Apply principles used to guide safe return-to-play decisions.
