Course Description
This 6-hour course explores the role of auditory processing in neurological health through the lens of tonotopic mapping. Scholars will study auditory system anatomy, sensory mapping (tonotopic, somatotopic, and retinotopic), and their connections to balance, anxiety, and multisensory integration. The course emphasizes evaluation techniques, neuro-rehabilitative strategies, and the brain's contextual processing of sound. Topics include tinnitus, the “cocktail party” effect, auditory stream processing, and sound localization for a truly integrative approach to auditory-driven care.
What you’ll learn:
- Understand the structure and function of peripheral and central auditory pathways.
- Evaluate auditory, somatosensory, and visual mapping and their neurological implications.
- Identify auditory contributions to disorders like anxiety, tinnitus, and balance dysfunction.
- Apply neuro-rehabilitative approaches for multisensory integration and auditory processing disorders.
