Description

This 15-hour course provides a detailed study of the ocular motor system, which is responsible for maintaining visual stability and controlling precise eye movements. Participants will examine the anatomy and neurology of eye muscles and the central brain regions involved in eye movement control. The course covers types of eye movements—saccades, pursuits, vergence, gaze holding, and optokinetics—as well as diagnostic strategies and individualized rehabilitative approaches for disorders such as convergence insufficiency, gaze-holding nystagmus, and saccadic intrusions.

What you’ll learn:

  • Understand the anatomy and central control of the ocular motor system.
  • Identify and differentiate between types of eye movements and related disorders.
  • Perform ocular motor exams and interpret abnormal findings like nystagmus or saccadic latency.
  • Apply targeted rehabilitation strategies for motility disorders such as convergence insufficiency and pursuit deficits.

The Ocular Motor System

This module discusses the structures of the brain and brainstem that produce various eye movements with focus on their central connectivity. Ocular examination techniques along with their diagnostic interpretations will be reviewed.
