Course Description

Pain is influenced not only by physical factors but also by cognitive and emotional processes. In this session, Kenneth Jay explores how stress and belief systems interact with the nervous system to shape pain experiences. Participants will examine how physiological stress responses can amplify pain perception and how individual beliefs about pain can influence emotional and behavioral outcomes. The lecture reviews how fear and avoidance behaviors may develop and contribute to ongoing discomfort and functional limitations. By understanding the interaction between stress, cognition, and pain, clinicians can develop more comprehensive approaches to pain management that address both physiological and psychological components. This session highlights the importance of integrating neuroscience and behavioral insights in clinical care.
