The New "Flexible Access" Policy: Access that Meets Your Needs and Budget
At the Carrick Institute, every major decision begins with a single question: Does this improve learning for our scholars? The transition from Unlimited Access to Flexible Access is one such decision—guided by experience, grounded in data, and designed to align with how people truly learn.
The Original Intent Behind Lifetime and Unlimited Access
When the Carrick Institute first introduced online learning, we launched with "Lifetime Access." The idea was simple and well-intentioned: allow scholars to access course materials for as long as they needed in order to master the content.
However, as integrated health continues to evolve, our courses do too. Typically, a Carrick Institute course has a lifespan of 5–7 years before it's retired or refreshed. So, "lifetime" referred to the life of the course, not the lifetime of the scholar. Unfortunately, this created understandable confusion.
To bring clarity, we replaced "Lifetime Access" with "All Access." The goal was to emphasize flexibility: scholars could review material at any time, return to it as often as desired, and learn at their own pace without fixed terms or cohorts. The spirit behind both policies was education first—freedom without deadlines or pressure.
Where All-Access Fell Short
Over time, we noticed an unintended trend. "All Access" began to be interpreted as "I have unlimited time to complete the course."
Our 2025 audit uncovered some surprising insights. Only 7% of scholars ever revisited a course after completion, and many were taking years (not months) to finish a 15-hour course. While All Access felt supportive, it was leading to procrastination and reduced learning momentum. Scholars weren't struggling with comprehension—they were forgetting what they learned in the course, eight months prior.
A Larger Evolution Was Already Underway
In late 2025, the Carrick Institute launched a multi-year growth initiative to better serve scholars worldwide. This transformation brought a brand-new, fully searchable website, robust infrastructure for an uninterrupted learning experience, an advanced Learning HQ with state-of-the-art delivery tools, an expanded library of courses, and significantly lower average course prices.
To accomplish this responsibly, we examined where resources were most effective—and where they weren't. Unlimited Access, while well-intentioned, wasn't delivering educational value proportionate to its cost. Still, we didn't want to sacrifice the flexibility scholars appreciated.
Introducing Flexible Access: Structure Meets Flexibility
Flexible Access was developed to preserve what worked, fix what didn't, and make courses more affordable for everyone. As of October 2025, all Carrick Institute courses now follow the Flex Access model.
General Course Credit Hours: Access Duration
1–8 hours: 1 month
9–15 hours: 2 months
16–25+ hours: 3 months
Multi-course programs: Custom durations up to 3 years
This new structure aligns with upcoming regulatory standards, realistic study patterns, and learner psychology—providing motivation and accountability without restricting flexibility.
Need More Time? No Problem.
Flexible Access is designed with transparency in mind. Scholars receive proactive notifications before their access period expires. If more time is needed, the solution is simple and affordable: add an extra month of access for just $20. Want to audit a course again a year later? Same price—$20 for a month of review access.
While continuing education credits can still only be earned once per course, you can always revisit the material whenever you need—on your own timeline.
Why Flexible Access Is Better for Everyone
Flexible Access reflects the reality of how most adults learn. Structure drives completion, flexibility encourages autonomy, affordability increases access, and optional extensions honor individual pacing. Most importantly, it protects the spirit behind our earlier access models—ensuring everyone has the opportunity to truly learn—while adding the structure that helps scholars reach their goals faster.
Flexible Access isn't about limitations.
It's about learning that works... for everyone.

The NERD Model: Why Some Concussion Patients Get Stuck
Why don't some concussion patients get better? They’re literally stuck. The NERD model reveals how maladaptive neural loops trap recovery and how clinicians can break the cycle.

When a Concussion Unleashes Something Deeper
When a concussion doesn’t heal as expected, it may reveal something far deeper. This post explores how traumatic brain injury can unmask hidden tick-borne infections—like Lyme and its co‑infections—through shared pathways of neuroinflammation and immune dysfunction. For clinicians, it’s a call to look beyond “post-concussion syndrome” and recognize emerging research that links persistent symptoms, immune dysregulation, and overlooked infection.

Molecular Hydrogen: A Foundational Therapy for Neurology, Regeneration, and Integrative Clinical Practice
Molecular hydrogen (H₂) is emerging as a foundational therapy for integrative clinics. This small molecule crosses the blood-brain barrier, selectively neutralizes harmful free radicals, and supports mitochondrial function. Safe, inexpensive, and easy to implement, H₂ enhances outcomes for neurorehabilitation, chronic inflammation, and regenerative protocols. Learn how to integrate it into your practice.

What Healthcare Can Learn From Boy Scouts: An Opinion Piece
We believe that education should be democratized—not locked behind professional guilds or lifetime specialties. That's why we allow any licensed health care provider to take our programs. We may not be able to certify every provider to perform every procedure—regulatory and scope-of-practice rules exist for good reason—but we can provide the knowledge, skills, and frameworks to broaden their thinking and improve their care. When a physical therapist understands neurochemistry, or a medical doctor understands vestibular rehabilitation, patients win.
