Description
This 25-hour hands-on course, taught by Professor Frederick Carrick, explores the clinical application of eye movement assessment and treatment for healthcare professionals. Participants will learn how to examine and interpret voluntary and reflexive eye movements as biomarkers of brain function and dysfunction. The course emphasizes neurological localization and differential diagnosis using bedside exams, without requiring high-tech instrumentation. Designed for practitioners treating traumatic brain injuries, neurodegenerative conditions, and sports-related concussions, this program provides actionable protocols for therapeutic intervention based on eye movement findings.
What you’ll learn:
- Perform comprehensive bedside eye movement exams to assess cortical, subcortical, and brainstem function.
- Identify clinical signs related to saccades, smooth pursuits, VOR, optokinetics, and vergence movements.
- Localize lesions and dysfunctions across visual, vestibular, and motor control pathways.
- Design evidence-based treatments using neurophysiological understanding of eye movements.
