About

Anne Blood

Dr. Anne Blood is a neuroscientist and investigator at Massachusetts General Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Her work focuses on the study of brain function and structure in neurological movement disorders using advanced neuroimaging techniques.

Dr. Blood’s research centers on the pathophysiology of dystonia and related movement disorders, with an emphasis on understanding how abnormalities in brain networks contribute to disordered movement. Her laboratory utilizes functional and diffusion MRI to examine motor and somatosensory systems, as well as to identify microstructural and functional changes associated with disease processes .

Her work also explores how repetitive or skilled motor activity may influence the development or progression of movement disorders. In addition to dystonia, her research extends to other neurological conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, with the goal of improving understanding of underlying mechanisms and informing future therapeutic approaches .

Dr. Blood’s broader research interests include basal ganglia function, motor control, and the neural basis of behavior and reward. Her work reflects an ongoing effort to integrate neuroimaging, clinical neuroscience, and translational research to better characterize and address complex neurological conditions.
