Course Description
Sports-related concussion has become a major concern in youth athletics, prompting increased attention from clinicians, researchers, and public health professionals. In this session, Unini Odama examines the epidemiology of concussions among young athletes. The lecture explores population-level data that reveal patterns of concussion incidence across different sports and age groups. Participants will review factors that contribute to concussion risk, including sport-specific exposures and reporting trends. The presentation also highlights the potential neurological and cognitive consequences of concussion in developing brains. By analyzing epidemiological data, clinicians gain insight into how concussions occur and how prevention strategies can be implemented. This course emphasizes the importance of surveillance, education, and evidence-based policy in protecting youth athletes and reducing the long-term impact of sports-related head injuries.
