Kiminobu Sugaya

Dr. Kiminobu Sugaya is a Professor of Medicine and Head of the Neuroscience Division at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine. His work focuses on translational neuroscience, with an emphasis on developing diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative and neurological disorders.

Dr. Sugaya’s research centers on stem cell biology, exosome technology, and regenerative approaches to conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and glioblastoma. His laboratory has contributed to advancements in neural stem cell applications, including early demonstrations that stem cell transplantation can improve cognitive function in aging models .

His current work explores exosome-based diagnostics and therapies, including the development of non-invasive biomarker detection methods using saliva, as well as targeted drug delivery systems capable of crossing the blood–brain barrier. These efforts aim to improve early detection and expand treatment options for complex neurological conditions .

In addition to his research, Dr. Sugaya is actively involved in interdisciplinary collaborations and contributes to ongoing investigations into neural development, neuroinflammation, and mechanisms underlying brain disorders. His work reflects a continued focus on bridging laboratory research with clinical application to better understand and address neurological disease processes.
