Jeff Russell
Dr. Jeff Russell is a professor, researcher, and clinician with more than four decades of experience in sports medicine, orthopaedics, and performing arts medicine. His work focuses on improving healthcare access and outcomes for performing artists, with a particular research emphasis on concussion management in stunt performers across film, television, and live events.
Dr. Russell holds a PhD in Dance Medicine and Science from the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom. He currently serves as Associate Professor of Athletic Training and Director of Science and Health in Artistic Performance (SHAPe) at Ohio University. In 2013, he established the SHAPe Clinic to provide specialized healthcare services for performing arts students.
Since transitioning his professional focus to performing arts medicine in 2002, Dr. Russell has contributed to advancing clinical care and awareness in this specialized population. He has been actively involved in professional organizations, including the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science, where he previously served on the Board of Directors and currently contributes as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Dance Medicine & Science. He has also served on the Board of the Performing Arts Medicine Association.
Dr. Russell has presented at national and international conferences and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. His work reflects an ongoing commitment to integrating research, clinical care, and education in support of performing artists’ health and performance.
