Jan Martensen

Dr. Martensen is a highly accomplished chiropractic radiologist with extensive training, academic experience, and leadership in diagnostic imaging and radiological sciences. He graduated cum laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1984, where he completed internships in chiropractic technique and radiology, followed by a residency in diagnostic radiology. He began his career in private radiology practice in Toledo, Ohio in 1988, building decades of clinical expertise in advanced imaging.

In 2013, Dr. Martensen joined the faculty at Life University as an Associate Professor in the Clinical Sciences Division (Radiology), contributing to the education and training of future clinicians. He holds Diplomate status with the American Chiropractic Board of Radiology (DACBR) and has advanced certification in CT and MRI interpretation. He further expanded his academic credentials by earning a PhD in Medical Sciences with a concentration in radiological sciences from the Medical College of Ohio.

Dr. Martensen has played a significant role in advancing the field of chiropractic radiology through professional leadership and national collaboration. He is a past president of the American Chiropractic College of Radiology (ACCR) and has served extensively on its executive committee. As Chair of the ACCR Commission on Radiological Physics and Safety, he continues to contribute as a senior physicist, helping guide standards in imaging safety and quality.

His influence extends into interdisciplinary and regulatory domains, having served as a liaison to the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) and the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD). He has also participated as a physicist liaison on the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) Nationwide Evaluation of X-ray Trends (NEXT) Committee, contributing to national publications on imaging safety and standards.

Dr. Martensen remains actively involved in professional organizations, having served on the board of the Ohio State Chiropractic Association and in leadership roles related to diagnostic imaging and education. He continues to consult on radiological matters and is a frequent lecturer on topics including MRI, CT, nuclear medicine, radiological physics, radiation safety, and clinical imaging applications. In addition, he contributes to postgraduate education and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine.
